Kinnear signs on for another month at Newcastle

London - Joe Kinnear confirmed Friday that he has signed a month's extension to his contract as Newcastle caretaker manager.

The former Wimbledon boss, who has suffered heart problems, replaced Kevin Keegan on a temporary basis, pending the sale of the club by owner Mike Ashley.

Despite his expletive-filled rant in his first press-conference, Kinnear has impressed many, and has achieved notable draws against Everton and Manchester City.

He insists he is enjoying the challenge. "I love it," he said. "It's the best thing I have ever done, it really is.

"I have tried on numerous occasions to get myself back in (to management). All the interviews that I'd had, I had asked if I could just make a statement and have them to listen to what I had to say.

"But it was, 'How's your heart?', 'How's your medical situation?', so really, I was written off, to be honest.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for me to let everybody know I am back in the business." (dpa)
