London, Jan 24 : Andy Murray's new coach Ivan Lendl has said that his job starts now after the No. 4 reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
The Scot's new coach insisted he always expected Murray to reach the final here again, and said any radical changes would be suicidal and crazy.
Murray has reached three Grand Slam finals and the last four in all four Majors last season without closing the deal, The Mirror reports.
Asked where he expected to be on Sunday night, Lendl said: "You know the answer to that. If I didn't expect that, I wouldn't be here. I wasn't hired to get Andy to the quarters. We all know that. He doesn't need me to get to the quarters or semis, he's done that without me and he could do that without me again.
"That's not to say he's going to win. Hopefully I can help Andy, whether it's talking to me, asking for my experience, helping him a little bit here and little bit there, just to go to the next step, that's the goal. Not just for here obviously. It's not necessarily a short term outlook I'm here for. You keep doing your thing, and when the door opens you step through it."
Murray and Lendl have immediately hit it off on and off the court. Yesterday the coach even amused the Scot by covering with a towel the camera aimed at the player's box during his match.
After reaching the quarter-finals here without dropping a set for the third consecutive year, Murray revealed his new coach was working on his mental game and encouraging him to hurry his opponent by playing closer to the baseline. (ANI)
