Lethargic incompetence of officials prevents Pak from hosting Davis Cup

Lethargic incompetence of officials prevents Pak from hosting Davis CupIslamabad, Nov 26 : Pakistan has lost an opportunity to host the Davis Cup due to its incompetent and lethargic officials.

The Daily Times quoted sources in the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), as saying that the board's incompetent and lethargic officials are responsible for the shifting of the Davis Cup tie from Pakistan to Lebanon despite the willingness of the competing team and the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

The PTF officials could not pursue the case in time after the ITF decided to organise the Pakistan's Davis Cup tie against Lebanon in Pakistan, they added.

The ITF Davis Cup committee, in its meeting with the PTF patron Syed Dilawar Abbas in August in Bangkok, had reportedly agreed to organise the first tie of 2012 in Pakistan and asked the PTF to send them the details of security arrangements and venue by November 1. The ITF also sent a security questionnaire to the PTF for a detailed reply to confirm that how Pakistan would make the event risk free.

However, PTF Secretary General Mumtaz Yousaf failed to reciprocate properly to the ITF on October 26.

The ITF sent a reminder to the PTF after November 1, after the expiry of the deadline to submit the details, and told them to send the plans about security and venue arrangement as early as possible.

The PTF, however, got in tough with them on November 14, when the security consultant of the international body had already submitted a negative report about Pakistan. This reportedly led the ITF to informed Pakistan on November 18 that they had lost an opportunity to host the event. (ANI)
