London, Aug 18: Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina has defended Manchester United's new goalkeeper David De Gea despite his howler against West Bromwich Albion in Sunday's Premier League clash.
De Gea committed an embarrassing blunder to concede a goal in United's 2-1 win, following a similar gaffe in the Community Shield final win over Manchester City a week earlier.
Questions are already being asked about De Gea's suitabilty as Edwin van der Sar's long-term successor, but Reina believes that the 20-year-old will go on to justify his 18.3 million pounds fee.
"It is typical that the critics smell blood when there is a mistake," Sky Sports quoted Reina, as saying.
"But if Sir Alex Ferguson has put his trust in him by signing him then it seems logical that he will settle and be a quality signing for them," he added. (ANI)
