London, June 13: Manchester United is confident that they will sign Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones, despite a late bid to hijack the move by Liverpool.
Blackburn Rovers' Indian owners Venky's have said that they want about 25 million pounds for the 19-year-old.
However, United are pointing to a 16 million pound release clause in Jones' contract.
The reigning Premier League champions are reluctant to improve their 16.5 million pound opening offer, but may agree a compromise of about 20 million pounds, The Sun reports.
It was also reported that Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish had tried to take advantage of the chaos by lodging a 22 million pound bid for the defender. (ANI)
