Manager Curbishley leaves West Ham

London  - Alan Curbishley has resigned as West Ham manager, according to Sky Sports News.

West Ham lie fifth in the Premier League table, after their best start to the season in nine years, and won each of their last two games 4-1.

It is believed Curbishley was frustrated by the club's transfer policy, losing defender George McCartney to Sunderland on transfer deadline day having been told that defender Anton Ferdinand, who also joined Sunderland, would be the last sale.

Croatia manager Slaven Bilic appears the fans' favourites to take over. (dpa)
