McGrath lashes out at ‘grey areas’ in DRS’ leading to ‘howlers’ of decisions

McGrath lashes out at ‘grey areas’ in DRS’ leading to ‘howlers’ of decisionsSydney, Nov. 10  : Australian fast bowling legend Glenn McGrath has questioned changes to cricket's electronic eye, the Decision Review System (DRS), which has left umpires in no-man''s land and captains scratching their heads.

The controversial DRS again came under scrutiny in the first Test between Australia and South Africa in Brisbane, after Australia struggled with its reviews on the opening day of the Gabba Test against South Africa yesterday.

The Aussie team lost one by making a bad call for a caught behind off Graeme Smith down the leg side, had a howler from umpire Billy Bowden overturned to claim Smith lbw for 10, and lost the second and last review with a close lbw call on Alviro Petersen, News. com. au reports.

"To me there is still too much of a grey area. It can go in your favour or against you depending on the umpire," said McGrath.

"You like to think these decisions are there to help out the umpires a bit more. I am a big fan of the DRS but this leaves a little bit of a grey area which can come back and bite the umpires," he added.

The DRS was introduced to eliminate "howler'''' decisions by umpires but it seems that officials are still grappling with its implementation while India steadfastly refuses to use technology it regards as flawed, the report said. (ANI)
