Miandad, Akram refuse to coach Pak cricket team

Miandad, Akram refuse to coach Pak cricket teamLahore, Feb 19 : Former captains Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram have refused the Pakistan Cricket Board's offer to coach the cricket team.

"I am not able to accept the post of coach, which the PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt has been offering me from day one due to my own family problems," said Miandad.

As for Akram, he too met with the PCB chief to announce that he just didn't have the time for the coaching job.

"I am busy with my commentary assignments until 2012, so I cannot accept the offer myself," The Dawn quoted Akram, as saying.

When asked if a foreign coach would suit the national side, Miandad said it was up to the PCB to take a decision in this regard. Akram said he believed that no foreign coach had any interest in the Pakistan team. A local coach could serve the purpose well, he added.

"Ijaz Ahmad has done a good job in New Zealand as coach of the under-19 team [in the Junior World Cup]. The outfit was declared as a very well-behaved team there," he pointed out.

He was of the opinion that coaches, if handled professionally, could give better results. However, both Miandad and Akram were willing to coach the boys for short terms. (ANI)
