Miandad hits back at PCB, says it is his duty to put Pak cricket on right track

Ijaz Butt Lahore, July 10 : The war of words between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) director general Javed Miandad and the PCB chief Ijaz Butt is out in the open, with the former captain blasting the board for accusing him of interfering in its working.

In a written reply to the PCB's show cause notice, which was served to him for criticising the board's policies and selection procedures, Miandad said it was his duty to put Pakistan cricket on the right path.

"Since I am an important part of senior management of the PCB in capacities as member PCB governing board as well as director general, I consider it my obligation to lend a hand to Pakistan cricket and the PCB to move in the right direction for the betterment of cricket in general and cricketers in particular," Miandad wrote in his letter.

Miandad said he is the most experienced cricketer among all cricketers attached with the PCB currently, and he considers it a duty towards the country to highlight the wrongdoings in the board.

"The PCB should get the maximum benefits by utilising my services for the betterment of cricket in Pakistan," The Daily Times quoted Miandad, as saying.

He also threatened to approach President Asif Ali Zardari, PCB's patron in chief, if Butt continued to avoid him and take note of his complaints.

"I tried to get an appointment for a one-on-one meeting with the PCB chief, but he didn't have any time for me. Now when the chairman of the board has no time for the director general then I am left with no other choice but to directly contact the patron of the board, the President of Pakistan," Miandad said.

It is pertinent to mention that the PCB Chief Operation Officer (COO) Wasim Bari, acting on Butt's directives, had issued a showcause notice to Miandad after he had raised questions over the team selected for the England tour.

Miandad's nephew Faisal Iqbal, who was not included in the 17-man squad, was also notified for criticising the selectors and the board. (ANI)
