Sydney, May 13: Cricket Australia has said there is still much work to be done before Test cricket can be played at night as a request to try coloured ball at Sheffield Shield matches next summer will be considered next month.
The International Cricket Council cricket committee has asked countries to conduct experiments at first-class level in the hope lucrative floodlit Tests can be staged next year.
"If the reports coming back are that the ball keeps its condition and colour then I think we will be in a position this time next year to select a couple of venues and trial a day-night Test," ICC's general manager of cricket, Dave Richardson, said.
"The venue still needs to have decent lights, somewhere like Lord's, Sydney or Abu Dhabi. You also need to play it at a venue, and time of year, where dew isn''t going to come in a seven o''clock. You can have the best ball in the world but it would be unfair in those conditions," he added.
CA believes floodlit Tests are still some way off but its playing conditions committee will consider whether to stage some shield games under light, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. (ANI)
