Most people want Terry to resign as England skipper: Poll

Most people want Terry to resign as England skipper: PollLondon, Feb 5 : A majority of people polled in England want the soccer skipper John Terry to quit his post over his affair with an ex-girlfriend of left-back Wayne Bridge.

According to PoliticsHome, some 46 percent think that the 29-year-old should be made to stand down, compared to 39 percent who think he should stay on.

Nearly four fifths of people (77 percent) think that being a role model for young people should be an important part of the England captain''s role, while 15 percent think it should be an unimportant part.

PoliticsHome, which focuses predominantly on politics, interviewed 1,039 adults on February 3 and 4 and found that slightly more than half those polled (51 percent) agree with the statement that ‘there is no need for the public to know about John Terry''s private life’, compared to 44 percent who think there is a legitimate public interest in this matter, The Telegraph reports.

Terry has made it clear that he will not offer his resignation before he meets manager Fabio Capello on Friday to discuss issues related to his affair with Vanessa Perroneel.

Terry’s spokesman Phil Hall insists the Chelsea defender will do nothing dramatic before meeting Capello.

“John Terry is keeping his own counsel until he speaks to England manager Fabio Capello and then Capello will decide what announcement will be made,” Hall had said.

The Football Association announced earlier this week that Capello alone will make the decision on whether Terry should remain England captain, but it is believed that senior officials have already made the decision to replace him.

Capello has made it clear to his advisers, the FA and to Terry''s camp that he will not rush into any decision and wants to gather all facts before he chooses which way to go. (ANI)
