London - Andy Murray reached the concluding week of Wimbledon for the second time in his career as the home hero stopped German Tommy Haas 6-4. 6-7 (4-7),
6-3, 6-2 on Saturday.
The 12th seed who missed the major a year ago with a wrist injury, also moved to the last 16 at the All England club in 2006.
He will face last year's semi-finalist Richard Gasquet after the French eighth seed defeated compatriot Gilles Simon 6-3, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3.
Murray concluded the four-set win over former number two Haas, 30, who has undergone three shoulder operations as he broke for 3-2 on a double-fault, then secured another break before winning on his third match point.
"It was a good match," said the Scot, bearing the weight of the nation after the retirement of Tim Henman. "Maybe I had the chance to win in straight sets, but aside from the end of the second set, I played well." (dpa)
