Lucknow, Jan 27 - All top men paddlers, including Sharath Kamal, won their first round matches at the 73rd Senior National Table Tennis Championships at the SAI sub-centre here.
Though there was no major upset in the men's first round, there were some first round matches in the women's section that caught the attention.
Among them were West Bengal's Meenu Basak, seeded 16th, who bowed out to Pooja Sharma of Madhya Pradesh 5-11, 3-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-8, 8-11, while Kasturi Chakraborty of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) was stretched by Maharashtra B's Senhora D'Souza 11-7, 11-4, 2-11, 8-11, 13-11, 8-11, 11-8.
Olympian Neha Aggarwal struggled against Tamil Nadu's N. Vidya before winning 11-6, 11-7, 11-6, 1-11, 10-12, 11-7.
In another close match, the experience of Delhi's Esha Monga helped her win against Karnam Spoorthy from Airport Authority of India. Esha's counter helped her stay in the game as she won 11-13, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 10-11, 11-8.(IANS)
