Pak coach Waqar Younis to focus more on ‘very very important’ Test cricket

Pak coach Waqar Younis to focus more on ‘very very important’ Test cricketKarachi, Mar. 5 : Newly appointed Pakistan cricket coach Waqar Younis's first major assignment is to help his team prepare to defend the ICC World T20 champion title, but Younis has said his main objective would be to improve Pakistan's performance in the Test arena.

Younis said it is good to see Pakistan doing well in the slam-bang version of the game, but it was also important to improve in the longer version of the game.

"Test cricket is very, very important and we will have to concentrate on it more than anything else," The News quoted Younis, as saying.

"It's a good thing that we've been doing well in T20 cricket but what matters more is our performance in Test cricket. And if you look at our record in the last few years, we've been doing badly in Tests," he added.

Pakistan have not a won a Test series since their 3-0 triumph at home against the West Indies in 2006.

Since then they've lost to South Africa at home and abroad, against India in India and a humiliating 3-0 whitewash Down Under.

Younis believes that his squad has got the talent and things will improve this year.

"The last couple of years have been really bad but I'm sure that things will get better for the team," he said. (ANI)
