Pakistan will not suspend ‘spot-fixing’ accused players without proof: PCB

Pakistan will not suspend ‘spot-fixing’ accused players without proof: PCBIslamabad, Aug 31 : Pakistan will not suspend any player being investigated over allegations of ‘spot-fixing’, during the Lord’s Test against England, without proof of wrongdoing, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ijaz Butt has said.

“There is a case going on over here with Scotland Yard,” The Dawn quoted Butt, as saying.

“This is only an allegation. There is still no charge or proof on that account. So at this stage there will be no action taken,” he added.

Earlier, it was reported that the International Cricket Council (ICC) had asked the PCB to remove Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Amir and Kamran Akmal for the ODI series against England after their names surfaced in the scandal.

ICC chairman Sharad Pawar is believed to have demanded the action in order to restore the credibility of the one-day series.

The Pakistan team is in the midst of a betting scam, where Amir and Asif are alleged to have bowled pre-arranged no-balls in the Lord''s Test, which England won by an innings and 225 runs on Sunday.

Sources said that the PCB would act once a report on the issue by ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) is completed during the next 48 hours.

It is believed the players have taken legal advice and the ICC is preparing a watertight case to avoid any future litigation. (ANI)
