Pakistan witnesses 11th change in captaincy during Butt''s tenure as PCB boss

Pakistan witnesses 11th change in captaincy during Butt''s tenure as PCB bossNew Delhi, June 1: The replacement of Shahid Afridi by Misbah-ul Haq as Pakistan''s one-day international (ODI) skipper is the eleventh change in captaincy in all three formats of the game during Ijaz Butt''s tenure as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman.

Afridi had been leading the Twenty20 and ODI sides since early 2010 before the PCB recently removed him as one-day captain for the series against Ireland.

Butt even refused to give the reason behind the sacking of Afridi as the national team''s ODI skipper at that time, saying that it was the board''s right to change captains.

"Captains are changed all over the world and no cricket board gives a reason for that," Butt was quoted as saying.

"We did what we thought was best and don''t need to give a reason for it," he added.

Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Salman Butt and Afridi are those players who were shown the door as captains during Ijaz Butt''s chairmanship.

Although the PCB chief backed his decision to appoint Test captain Misbah-ul Haq, 37, as Afridi''s successor, it seems to be just a matter of time when he would also be replaced by someone else.

Butt admitted that lack of options in the squad had forced the move to appointed Misbah as ODI skipper.

"We''re looking at everyone''s performance and discipline, and we''re trying to pinpoint a suitable candidate for the captain''s position for the future," he stated.

Cricket fans and critics alike have called for Butt''s removal as PCB chief, but he has ignored them so far. (ANI)
