Pattaya, Feb 9 - India's Sania Mirza defeated Britain's Anne Keothavong 6-4, 7-5 to enter the singles quarterfinals at the Pattaya Open tennis event here Thursday.
The world no. 111 overcame an intense battle against the 88th-ranked Keothavong in the second round. The Indian next plays Hsieh Su-wei of Chinese Taipei in the last eight match Friday.
Hsieh beat Japan's Kimiko Date-Krumm 7-5, 6-0 in another second round match.
In other matches, third seed Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia dimissed Poland's Urszula Radwanska 6-3, 6-2 while America's Vania King brushed aside Russian Alla Kudryavtseva
6-1, 6-3.
Sania also advanced to the quarters of the doubles event with Australia's Anastasia Rodinova, beating the French pair of Iryna Bremond and Caroline Garcia 6-2, 6-0. They next meet the local duo of Varatchaya and Varunya Wongteanchai. (IANS)
