PCB probe committee summons Alam, Yousuf

PCB probe committee summons Alam, YousufPeshawar, Feb. 8 : The PCB has summoned Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam and captain Mohammad Yousuf to explain the team’s dismal tour of Australia.

Pakistan lost the test series by 3-0 and ODIs by 5-0 in a complete whitewash by Aussies.

The PCB constituted a six-member probe committee, including Wasim Bari and Wasim Akram, in order to find out the cause of the Australian rout.

“We are starting our evaluation work from Friday and on the first day coach Alam and manager Raqeeb have been invited and the following day our captain Yousuf will appear,” the Daily Times quoted Bari, as saying.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan cricket captains and some Pakistan Cricket Board officials have called for a major overhaul in the PCB.

Former PCB chairman Tauqir Zia said that junior players were being ignored, terming it a major reason for the problem.

“This shatters the passion of the players,” he said.

Former captain Amir Sohail pointed out that players, officials, institutions all of them-were responsible for the ‘destruction’ of cricket.

“Only passion was not going to turn things around, as the players also had to run their houses,” he added.

Sohail pointed out that the board had so much money that it could give the players hundreds of thousands of rupees, but unfortunately that doesn’t happen.

Another former skipper, Rashid Latif, described match-fixing as the main reason for the current state of Pakistan’s cricket. Players involved in match-fixing are being rewarded, he alleged. (ANI)
