London, Apr 16 : Former skipper Michael Vaughan wants Kevin Pietersen to answer his critics with a deluge of runs to prove that he still has the hunger to play for England.
Pietersen, 30, has not scored a one-day century in his last 26 innings and only recently rediscovered his Test form during the 3-1 Ashes triumph.
Vaughan told Wisden Cricketer magazine: "He's an amazing talent but it's clear that somewhere in the last year something hasn''t been right mentally with him."
"He has to convince England supporters that he's desperate to play for England. The only way he''ll do that is by scoring runs. He won''t do it by talking," he said.
"He won''t do it by celebrating over the top with the team when they get a wicket," The Sun quoted Vaughan, as saying.
"He''ll do it by scoring hundreds for England like Jonathan Trott is now. He has to do that and he has to do it on a consistent basis in all conditions," he added. (ANI)
