Warsaw - The Polish football federation announced Wednesday four candidates for its new president, amid a decision from FIFA and UEFA not to recognize a decision to suspend the federation's leadership.
A spokesman said the federation's delegates will vote for the new president on October 30. The four candidates are: Tomasz Jagodzinski, Zdzislaw Krecina and Polish football greats Zbigniew Boniek and Grzegorz Lato.
FIFA and UEFA said on Tuesday suspending the federation's leadership was illegal, and they wouldn't recognize the decision to appoint an administrator.
The Polish federation PZPN had been suspended by an arbitration court of the nation's Olympic Committee, which appointed Robert Zawlocki temporary head of the group.
It followed a motion from the sports ministry which has long been dissatisfied with PZPN's handling of corruption in Polish football.
Zawlocki later suspended PZPN boss Michel Listkiewicz and the rest of the board. But FIFA and UEFA said they continue to recognize the current leadership chaired by Listkiewicz as the "only legitimate authority," and will "ignore" any communication from Zawlocki's authority.
FIFA and UEFA said joint consultations would begin immediately to decide "measures to be taken" regarding PZPN and Polish football.
Zawlocki said the decision to suspend the federation's leadership was motivated by "continuous and glaring breaches" of PZPN statues that endangered functions of the organization.
Polish football has been plagued by corruption in recent years, with more than 20 clubs, referees, federations, club officials and players allegedly involved in match fixing. (dpa)
