Portugese players accuse Scolari of hypocrisy, betrayal

London, June 14 : Portugal boss and new Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari was accused of hypocrisy and even betrayal by his own Portuguese players.

The Portugal boss stunned his stars with the shock announcement that he will leave for Chelsea after Euro 2008, The Sun reported.

Big Phil confirmed the news at a team meeting in Neuchatel, Switzerland, just hours after Wednesday’s 3-1 win over the Czech Republic.

Just days earlier he told his team, including Real Madrid target Cristiano Ronaldo that they must not talk about their futures until after the tournament.

It is even more surprising because he pulled the plug on a move to Benfica when the news leaked out at Euro 2004.

“Some of the players feel betrayed by Scolari’s announcement. They feel it was a case of ‘Do as I say, not as I do’,” a source said.

“Players have been thinking about what he said and wondering what his motives were and how much was true,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo backed Scolari’s decision to turn his back on Portugal and take over at Chelsea next season.

“He needs to look for his future. I respect that. If he has better conditions, better things for the family and for him, I respect that,” Ronaldo said.

“This is football, it’s always like that. If he goes there it’s going to be difficult. If he doesn’t go there, another coach will do good work as well,” he added.

Ronaldo is confident that Portugal can give their coach a winning send off at Euro 2008. (ANI)
