Positive doping test reported for top US woman swimmer

Washington - US swimming officials issued a statement Thursday acknowledging that a member of the US Olympic team has tested positive for doping.
They did not identify Jessica Hardy, who qualified for the Olympics in several events earlier this month at the US Olympic trials in swimming. Her attorneys have confirmed that she tested positive during the trials for a banned stimulant, US Olympics broadcaster NBC reported on its website.
Hardy's representatives insisted that she was innocent of cheating.
The USA Swimming statement said that officials hoped for a hearing in the unspecified doping case to be "resolved expeditiously." (dpa)
