Vienna, Oct 25 : India's Somdev Devvarman crashed out in the second round of the singles qualifiers at the 650,000 euros Bank Austria Tennis trophy tournament.
Somdev, ranked 94th and second-seeded, lost 5-7, 1-6 to Romania's Marius Copil, ranked 305 here Sunday.(IANS)

After Kohl doping case, Austrian media call for stronger controls
Submitted by Rajiv Dhoot on Tue, 10/14/2008 - 10:39.Vienna - Following reports that Austrian Tour de France star Bernhard Kohl had tested positive for doping, local media on Tuesday criticized their country's authorities for their meek efforts to fight such illegal practices.
It was revealed on Monday that Kohl was the latest rider caught using the latest generation of the blood booster EPO, known as CERA (Continuous Erythropoiesis Receptor Activator), at retests of the samples gathered in July at the French race.
Kohl, 26, finished third overall at the Tour which was won by Spain's Carlos Sastre. Read more »

Austrian ex-hurdler banned for life after second doping case

Vienna - Former hurdler Elmar Lichtenegger was banned for life Wednesday by the Austrian athletics federation for a second positive doping test.
The ban will apply to all international and national sport, the federation ruled.
Lichtenegger, 34, retired from athletics in December last year a few days after testing positive for the banned substance Norandrosteron, a metabolite of the anabolic steroid Nandrolone. Read more »

Vienna - Sturm Graz fans are to get bodyguards to protect them on future trips to play Eastern European opponents, the resident of the Austrian club, Hans Rimmer, was quoted as saying by the APA news agency Tuesday.
The comment follows an incident involving Graz fans during an Intertoto Cup match away to Hungarian side Honved Budapest last Saturday. Read more »

The most outspoken was goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, who was playing in his last European Championship game.
"In my opinion the performance of the referee was very disappointing. He was a referee who did not really fancy us Germans," the former Arsenal custodian said. Read more »
