
Hamburg - Midfielder Franck Ribery was sent off as Bayern Munich slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Schalke 04 on Saturday in a blow to their Bundesliga title bid. Ribery was dismissed in the 76th minute after a second yellow card, joining Schalke's Jermaine Jones who was sent off six minutes earlier following a second booking.
Halil Altintop headed the winner for Schalke from a corner in the 21st minute to leave reigning champions Bayern third, three points behind leaders Wolfsburg who visit second-to-bottom Energie Cottbus on Sunday.
Wolfsburg are on 57 points, two ahead of Hertha Berlin who were 1-0 winners at Hoffenheim on Friday evening.
VfB Stuttgart chalked up a fifth consecutive win in a 2-0 defeat of Eintracht Frankurt to move to fourth, level on 54 points with Bayern.
SV Hamburg are also on 54 points, dropping to fifth after a 2-0 defeat at Borussia Dortmund.
Elsewhere, Werder Bremen came from two goals down to defeat Bochum 3-2, bottom club Karlsruhe earned a 1-0 win at Bayer Leverkusen, and Hanover defeated Cologne 2-1. (dpa)
