Ribery starts on the bench against IndiaNew Delhi, Jan 10 : French winger Frank Ribery was named on the bench for Bayern Munich's match against India at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here Tuesday.

Ribery who started his career with French side Boulogne in 2000 has represented Turkish club Galatasaray and French giants Marseille before joining Bayern in 2007.

French star Zinedine Zidane had called the winger "jewel of French football". In 114 appearances for the German side Ribery has netted 39 goals.

Ribery represented his nation in two FIFA World Cups and UEFA Euro 2008. He made his international debut in May 2006 against Mexico. At the 2006 World Cup, Ribery scored his first international goal against Spain and played in the final match against Italy.

The 28-year-old is a two-time winner of the French Player of the Year award and has also won the German Footballer of the Year becoming the first player to hold both honours. (IANS)
