Rio de Janeiro - Brazilian striker Ronaldo said he will have fully recovered from his latest knee surgery within "six or seven months," but he noted that his retirement is getting closer.
"The moment to stop comes for everyone. Mine will arrive soon," Ronaldo said in an interview broadcast on Brazilian television channel Globo Monday.
The Milan striker, 31, arrived in Rio de Janeiro earlier this month to pursue his recovery after tearing the rotula ligament of his left knee on February 13.
On Sunday night, he saw his favourite side, Flamengo, beat Botafogo 1-0 at Maracana stadium, in the first leg of the Rio de Janeiro Championship final.
Ronaldo told TV Globo that his recovery "is going very well."
"I think I will be able to play again within six or seven months," he said.
However, he also made it clear that he does not intend to keep playing much longer.
When asked about the recent retirement of fellow-Brazilian striker Romario, Ronaldo praised his colleague, and stressed he "learnt a lot" from the veteran. He also noted that retirement catches up with all players, including himself. (dpa)
