Samitova-Galkina wins steeplechase in 2008 world best timeOslo - Gulnara Samitova-Galkina beat fellow-Russian world champion Ekaterina Volkova with a 2008 world leading result in the 3,000 metres steeplechase on Friday night at the second stop of the Golden League series.

The world record holder Samitova-Galkina clocked 9 minutes 14.77 seconds with Volkova trailing in 9:18.24 minutes at the Bislett Games.

Oslo marked the second event of the Golden League series, following Berlin on Sunday, with athletes who win their event at all six stops eligible for 1-million dollar jackpot
(635,000 euros).

The women's steeplechase, which makes its Olympic debut at the Beijing Games in August, is not among the 10 Golden League disciplines. (dpa)
