Berlin, Dec 10 : Schalke registered their third consecutive win and moved joint top with Bayern Munich as they defeated Hertha Berlin 2-1.
Hertha who started more aggressively of the two suffered a shock goal in the 19th minute as Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar struck from close range.
It was Huntelaar's 14th goal of the season as he became the top scorer in the Bundesliga here Friday.
Schalke's lead lasted just six minutes, as Berlin's top goalscorer Adrian Ramos levelled with a near-post header.
One minute before the break new Schalke arrival Teemu Pukki grabbed the winner with a fine shot from the edge of the penalty area into the corner of the goal.
There were chances galore for both sides in the second half but Schalke held on for the win which catapulted them over local rivals Borussia Dortmund into the top position along with Bayern Munich who have a game in hand.
Berlin stay on 9th position with 19 points and are in danger of dropping out of the top 10 as TSG Hoffenheim and Hamburg, teams below them both play on the weekend.(IANS)
