Senior Pak cricketers ‘either fade away or are made to fade away’: Yousuf

Senior Pak cricketers ‘either fade away or are made to fade away’: YousufIslamabad, Jan 24: Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf, who was omitted from the national squad for the upcoming 50-over World Cup, has said that senior players in the country "either fade away or are made to fade away".

Yousuf admitted that he is disappointed at not being named in the 15-man squad, but said that his international career is far from over.

"I am disappointed with my ouster, but what can one say. It is the decision of the selectors and they know best why they dropped me. But I will continue to play at every level and see how it goes," the Daily Times quoted Yousuf, as saying.

"Look there is no use announcing a retirement in Pakistan cricket. It makes no difference because mainly the way senior players are treated here they either fade away or are made to fade away," he added.

The 36-year-old, who was dropped from the team because of suspect fitness, further said that he has proved his form and fitness by featuring in the ongoing National One-day Cup.

"I've proven my fitness. I am in good form and could have benefited the team in the World Cup. I would have quit myself if I felt unworthy for national duty after the World Cup," Yousuf said.

Yousuf has not played for his country since November due to a groin injury.

The World Cup will be jointly hosted by India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka from February 19 to April 2. (ANI)
