Some senior Indian stars ‘felt threatened’ by my decisions as India coach: Chappell

Some senior Indian stars ‘felt threatened’ by my decisions as India coach: Chappell Melbourne, Nov 3 : Former Australian captain Greg Chappell says that his biggest regret as India coach was not communicating his plans well enough to senior players such as Sachin Tendulkar, V. V. S. Laxman and Virender Sehwag.

“Some of them felt threatened, therefore they hadn’t been made as aware of their importance to the group as perhaps they needed to be,” Chappell told the Age.

He further accepted that decisions he made as coach of India, which brought him into conflict with some of the ageing champions, meant that he was perceived as the bad guy in attempts to regenerate the team.

Chappell was appointed as India coach on a two-year contract in 2005.

However, a series of controversies and personality clashes, combined with India’s poor performance at the 2007 World Cup led to his resignation from the position in April 2007. (ANI)
