Innsbruck, Austria - Spain's David Villa scored the first hat-trick of Euro 2008 to help his side to a convincing 4-1 victory against Russia in a Group D game played in Innsbruck on Tuesday.
Villa scored his goals in the 20th, the 44th and the 75th minute, while substitute Cesc Fabregas scored the other in second half injury time.
The Russians, who were completely outplayed throughout the game, pulled one back four minutes from the end through Roman Pavlyuchenko.
The other group game sees the defending champions Greece take on Sweden in the later match in Salzburg. (dpa)
