Spain trains ahead of semifinal, no changes in sight

Spain trains ahead of semifinal, no changes in sightNeustift, Austria - Luis Aragones plans to remain loyal to the starting line-up that has taken Spain to the semifinals of Euro 2008 and delivered no surprises in Tuesday's training session in the Austrian town of Neustift.

Aragones set up the traditional game between the starting 11 and the substitutes.

The theoretical starters were keeper Iker Casillas, with Sergio Ramos, Carles Puyol, Carlos Marchena and Joan Capdevila in defence. Marcos Senna, Xavi, David Silva and Andres Iniesta held the midfield positions, with Fernando Torres and David Villa upfront.

That same team beat Russia - Spain's rival Thursday in the semifinals - 4-1 in the group phase of the Euro and drew 0-0 against Italy in the quarterfinals, when Aragones' men advanced in the penalty shootout.

Following a tough, drawn-out match against Italy on Sunday, Spanish players seemed to have recovered following the rest on Monday and the light session on Tuesday morning.

In training Tuesday afternoon, Aragones stressed the importance of the first line of pressure on the rival and of retreating fast to prevent a Russian counter-attack.

He also focused on free kick throws and corner kicks, in both defensive and attacking positions, after both Russia and Greece managed to score against Spain in such circumstances. (dpa)
