London, Jan 9 : England football star Stewart Downing was arrested on suspicion of assault after a row with an ex-lover at a nightclub, on Sunday.
Both Downing and Donna Moloney were out with separate groups of friends when they ran into each other and words were exchanged before the alleged late-night fight.
The Liverpool winger and nursery boss, the mother of his four-year-old daughter, were arrested on suspicion of assault after they were kicked out of the club.
The pair was kept in cells overnight then questioned on Sunday morning.
"Officers were called to an incident at a pub shortly before 1am on Sunday. A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and a 32-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of assault," the Mirror quoted police as saying.
They were later released on bail pending further inquiries. (ANI)
