Stuttgart - VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich will meet on Friday to discuss a transfer of Germany striker Mario Gomez from Stuttgart to the Bundesliga champions.
Stuttgart general manager Horst Heldt confirmed the meeting on Thursday but said that his club had no intention to sell the 23-year- old Gomez.
Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed his club's interest on Gomez in Thursday's edition of Kicker sports magazine, saying that Munich was getting involved because there was also interest in the forward from Italy and Spain.
"It is only normal that Bayern is looking into the matter before a young and highly talented players leave the country," Rummenigge told Kicker.
Gomez has a contract in Stuttgart until 2012 and Rummenigge dismissed speculation that he has already signed a pre-contract with Munich. He also rejected reports estimating the transfer fee at 35 million euros (54.3 million dollars).
Rummenigge said as well that Gomez would not come to Munich in a swap deal for another Germany striker, Lukas Podolski, insisting that Podolski is not for sale.
Both players are currently at Euro 2008 where Germany was due to play Portugal in a quarter-final later Thursday. Gomez has disappointed so far and remained scoreless, Podolski has claimed three of Germany's four goals at the tournament.
If Munich hire Gomez he would be the fourth big-name forward there, joining Podolski, Germany forward Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni, the Italy striker who was the 2008 Bundesliga top scorer. (dpa)
