Lugano, Switzerland - The Swiss football federation is insisting that French first division club Olympique Lyon release defender Patrick Mueller for their final friendly ahead of next months Euro championships, which they are co-hosting with Austria.
Switzerland is playing a friendly against Slovakia on Saturday - the same day Lyon is playing the French cup final against Paris St Germain.
Lyon has refused to release Mueller for the international, but Swiss coach Kobi Kuhn said that they would try to ensure his release. "We will use everything at our disposal and make use of the FIFA statutes."
The FIFA regulations state that players have to be released 14 days before an international competition and the Euro opening match between Switzerland and the Czech Republic is on June 7 - exactly 14 days after the French cup final.
Kuhn has to finalize his squad by Wednesday May 28. (dpa)
