Tait defends Oz selectors’ decision of one specialist spinner for World Cup

Tait defends Oz selectors’ decision of one specialist spinner for World Cup Hobart, Jan 19 : Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait has defended Cricket Australia (CA) for choosing only one specialist spinner in the 15-man squad for next month’s World Cup in the Indian sub-continent.

Australia’s slow-bowling hopes on the spin-friendly pitches of India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will rest with Nathan Hauritz, who has a modest ODI record in India of four wickets in seven matches at an average of
70.75.

Tait is expecting to find some pace and carry on offer during the two-month tournament as Australia pin their hopes on a fast bowling attack of Tait, Brett Lee, Doug Bollinger and Mitchell Johnson.

“We’ve got four pretty good fast bowlers and a good spin bowler,” the Age quoted Tait, as saying.

“We’ve got other batters who can bowl spin (David Hussey and Steve Smith). So, I think the balance of the squad is pretty good. The selectors should be pretty happy with what they’ve chosen,” he added. (ANI)
