Taipei, Dec 24 : Taiwan has appealed the disqualification of its top female taekwondo player during the Asian Game, a sports official said Friday.
Taiwan has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over the disqualification of Yang Shu-Chun, Chou Jui, an official from the Sports Affairs Council, was quoted by the Central News Agency (CNA) as saying.
"The supplementary material (for the case) were sent to the council Thursday, and the council is expected to make a ruling in three months' time," he told CNA.
On November 17, Yang, 25, was disqualified during the first round of the under-49-kg division when she was leading Vietnam's Thi Hau Vu 9-0.
The referee accused Yang of secretly attaching two extra sensors onto her socks. The sensors detect when competitors score points by landing kicks and punches on their opponent's body.
Yang insisted that her socks, whose sensors had to be attached manually, had been approved by the inspector, a South Korean woman.
Despite Yang's protests, Dec 21, the World Taekwondo Federation ruled that Yang used unapproved gear and interfered with the tournament by staging a sit-in protest.
The federation banned Yang and her coach for three and 20 months respectively, and fined the Taiwan Taekwondo Association $50,000.(DPA)
