London, May 14 : Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has given striker Carlos Tevez the option of departing from the club if he feels dissatisfied at Eastlands.
Tevez had handed in a transfer request earlier on in the season, but had later withdrawn it.
“He’s got a five-year contract, but, in my opinion, a player should stay here because he believes in the project and he’s happy at the club. If players aren’t happy to stay, it’s better they leave,” The Sun quoted Mancini, as saying.
“Carlos has scored more than 20 goals and he’s an important player for us. This is not just for Carlos, it’s for the players in general - when you start your job you should be happy because the season is long and there could be a thousand problems,” he added.
It was earlier reported that City is keen on making 50 million pounds from the sale of Tevez, should he choose to make a move away from the club.
City believes that the striker’s development in the past two years has now placed him in the same price bracket as Chelsea’s Fernando Torres.
Tevez has scored 51 times in 82 games for the club, including 19 goals from 28 appearances in the Premier League this season, and still has three years remaining on his contract.
The 27-year-old will line up for today’s FA Cup final against Stoke City after recovering from a hamstring injury. (ANI)
