London - Tottenham coach Juande Ramos says new signing Giovani dos Santos could be a "terrific" player for the London club.
The Mexican forward, 19, signed a five-year deal after a Spurs paid Barcelona an initial fee of 4.7 million pounds, that could rise to as much as 8.6 million pounds, with appearances.
"If Giovani progresses as we hope, he will be a terrific player," Ramos said. "This is a young player with a lot of potential, who I have watched for some time.
"For us it is an exciting signing because he has excellent quality, he operates well in different positions and, above all, is technically excellent."
Giovani said he was delighted to be joining the London club, even though there had been other, big clubs reportedly interested in signing him.
"It's a dream to come to a big club like Spurs," he said.
"I came here because of the passion of the fans, the size of the club and I can see us growing in the future." (dpa)
