Copenhagen - European football's ruling body UEFA Friday said it had accepted a protest by Danish club Aalborg BK over the wrong red card handed out in the Champions League tie Wednesday away to Celtic.
Aalborg defender Michael Jakobsen was served a one-match suspension while Michael Beauchamp was cleared, the UEFA Control and Disciplinary body ruled.
The Danish side filed the protest after Italian referee Matteo Trefoloni wrongly sent off Australian defender Beauchamp instead of Jakobsen in the 79th minute of the goalless match at Celtic Park after a foul.
Jakobsen will therefore miss Aalborg's upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Manchester United on September 30.
Jakobsen said he was "very disappointed" over the decision that means he miss out on the match when Aalborg hosts the English club, the online site sporten. dk reported.
UEFA said Aalborg had three days to appeal. (dpa)
