Bordeaux, France - European football's ruling body UEFA is to keep Ukraine and Poland as co-hosts of Euro 2012, Franz Beckenbauer told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa on Friday.
The decision was taken at an executive committee meeting of European's governing body for the sport.
However UEFA is retaining the right to reduce the number of venues for the tournament from eight to six, Beckenbauer said.
It was also agreed to expand the European Championships to 24 teams from the current 16 from 2016.
Former German international Beckenbauer is an executive member of world governing body FIFA who attends UEFA executive committee meetings as a non-voting observer.
UEFA had been considering whether to go ahead with Ukraine and Poland as co-hosts of Euro 2012 in view of at present inadequate stadiums, transport problems and a shortage of hotel accommodation. (dpa)
