Villa’s brace spurs Spain to facile 2-0 win against Honduras

david villaLondon, Jun 22 : Spain scored their first victory in the World Cup against Honduras with Barcelona ace David Villa scoring both the goals.

Villa kicked off his claim for the Golden Boot with both goals, but rued a second-half penalty miss that cost him a hat trick.

The win put Spain back on track in Group H after their opening 1-0 defeat to Switzerland.

"If we beat Chile we're practically group winners, so we are happy. The good thing is this result means we depend on ourselves. Our loss to Switzerland is water under the bridge," The Sun quoted Villa, as saying.

"I didn't feel pressure on the penalty. I've been taking penalties all my life. If I missed it was because I didn't strike the ball well," he added.

The win improved Spain's chances of avoiding a potential match with Brazil in the last 16.

Skipper Amado Guevara said: "There's no great analysis needed. We knew there was no tomorrow, that it was a must-win match." (ANI)
