Sydney, May 25 : Former Australian Test spinner and coach of spin legend Shane Warne, Terry Jenner, has passed away at the age of 66.
Jenner, known as the 'Spin Doctor', coached Warne throughout his illustrious career. A veteran of nine Tests, he was battling a long illness.
His wife Ann announced the news on his blog.
"Terry passed away peacefully today just a month and a half after the anniversary of his heart attack," she was quoted as saying in Daily Telegraph.
"He wanted to be at home with his family and we were able to share the last few days with him.
"For the past year I have continuously expressed our thanks for all the support we have had and say again we really have appreciated all the care and concern.
"At this time we really need to spend time as a family and would appreciate being given that time. Terry's funeral will be held at the Adelaide Oval and details will be advised in the Advertiser shortly."'
Former Test captain Allan Border said "the spin bowling fraternity has lost a brother".
Border gave Jenner the credit for making Warne the player he was and said that would be Jenner's legacy.
"Terry Jenner was right behind that (Warne's development)," Border said.
"(Warne) just learnt a bit more about the art of leg-spin bowling - Terry was a very, very strong influence on Shane Warne. That says it all.
"There's not a spin bowler in the country who hasn't had any time with Terry Jenner. He's just one of those fellas who connected to the younger generation. He was just so passionate about it."(IANS)
