London, Jun 21: A gang of three tried to blackmail ace footballer Wayne Rooney and his wife Coleen for 5,000 pounds for pictures of their son, Kai.
The gang Coleen Rooney’s mobile phone, which contained pictures of Kai, and demanded 5,000 pounds for its return, a court heard.
Lee Platt, 28, Jennifer Green, 25, and Steven Malcolm, 42, appeared at Manchester magistrates’ court to face charges of blackmail ‘with menaces’ and receiving stolen goods, the Daily Mail reports.
It is alleged that they threatened to sell the phone’s memory card, containing up to 100 pictures of Wayne and Coleen Rooney’s son, to the national press.
It is also alleged that Coleen accidentally left her mobile phone at the Manchester Evening News Arena when the couple attended a concert by US band the Black Eyed Peas in May last year.
It was claimed that during the concert Coleen’s camera was put down on a table in a hospitality suite from where it was taken.
It said the alleged blackmail offence took place between August 13 and September 11 last year. (ANI)
