London, Aug. 1:
Cops are likely to book England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney for an assault charge after he was accused of spitting at a stranger.
The 22-year-old footballer is said to have flipped while leaving a swish restaurant with his wife Coleen.
The alleged victim did not make a formal complaint - but Rooney agreed to meet officers after a third party went to a police station to report the incident.
The Manchester United ace did not go to a nick to be grilled but was questioned under caution at a neutral venue.
He was not arrested, but police, who read him his legal rights, are continuing their investigations.
The man, who was spat at - an unnamed paparazzi photographer - has also been interviewed over his version of what happened after Rooney and Coleen, also 22, dined out in central London.
Under British law, spitting at somebody is an offence of common assault. (ANI)
