Wooden spoon for Pakistan in Hockey World Cup

pakistan-HockeyNew Delhi, March 11 : For the first time four times champions Pakistan finished last at a Hockey World Cup after they were beaten 2-3 by Canada in the 11th-12th place play-off at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here Thursday.

Scott Tupper scored the golden goal for Canada through penalty corner in the 83rd minute.

Pakistan took an early lead in the fourth minute after Rehan Butt deflected a powerful reverse stick shot by Shakeel Abbasi from the top of the circle. Canada fired in the equaliser in the 12th minute through Connor Grimes, who deflected Rob Short's precise pass to sound the board.

Pakistan went ahead in the 46th minute after Akhtar Ali volleyed the ball into the goal. Canada drew parity in the 58th minute through Mark Pearson. (IANS)
