Younus Khan likely to join ‘scandal-hit’ Pak team for England ODIs

Younus KhanLahore, Aug 31 : Pakistan batsman Younus Khan has reportedly been given the green-signal by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to join the national team for the five-match one-day series against England.

According to The Nation, the decision to recall the veteran batsman was taken in a meeting held between skipper Shahid Afridi and team manager Yawar Saeed on Monday.

The team’s dismal performance in Test matches and the match-fixing allegations on seven players are being attributed as the reasons behind the decision.

Younus has not played any ODI for Pakistan since November last year.

The 32-year-old along with Mohammad Yousuf was banned indefinitely from the team in March following an inquiry committee report, which had probed Pakistan’s dismal performances and disciplinary problems during the tours of the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand and Australia.

Five other players - Shoaib Malik, Rana Navedul Hasan, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal - were also banned or fined.

However, the appellate tribunal later lifted bans on Younus and Malik and halved the fines.

Pakistan had earlier announced a 16-member squad for series on August 24.

The Pakistan team announced: Shahid Afridi (Captain), Salman Butt, Shahzaib Hasan, Azhar Ali, Mohammad Yousuf, Mohammad Hafeez, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Abdul Razzaq, Fawad Alam, Mohammad Aamir, Mohammad Asif, Umar Gul, Wahab Riaz, Shoaib Akhtar and Saeed Ajmal. (ANI)
