Sri Lanka thrashed Pakistan with a huge marginLahore, Jan 24: A career-best centuary of Sri Lankan batsman, Tillakaratne Dilshan leads Sri Lanka to thrash Pakistan by 235 runs to win the three-match cricket series by 2-1 on Saturday.

Muttiah Muralitharan castled his 500th wicket in the match and he needs 3 more wickets to overtake Wasim Akram''s tally of 502 wickets.

Elected to bat first, Sri Lanka scored 309 runs and skittled out Pakistan in a mere total of 75 in just 22.5 overs.

Apart from Dilshan, Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara also played good innings and scored 45 and 50 runs respectively.

Tillakaratne Dilshan, hit 10 fours in his 139-ball inning.

Initially, Sri Lanka could not find the boundaries easily but Jayasuriya finally broke his silence and hit over Rao Iftikhar Anjum for 25 runs in 15th over of the inning.

After Jayasuriya, Sangakkara and Dilshan added 104 runs for the second wicket at a run-a-ball rate and when Sangakkara fell run out, Sri Lanka were already eyeing a score in the vicinity of 300.

Pakistan needed an extra ordinary effort to chase down such a mammoth target but the first 22 runs cost them six frontline batsmen and the match was virtually over there.

Umar Gul (27) and captain Shoaib Malik (17) were the two batsman, who managed to get double digit scores, while four had ducks against their names as the hosts folded for their lowest score at the venue.

Gul and Shoaib Malik tried to delay the inevitable with a 46-run partnership but Ajantha Mendis broke the stand by claiming Gul.

Lankan pacer Nuwan Kulasekara (3/17) and Thilan Tushara (3/33) mowed down the Pakistani top order before Muttiah Muralitharan (2/2) and Ajantha Mendis (1/12) completed the rout.

Muralitharan castled Sohail Khan (4) for his 500th ODI scalp, which also dropped curtains on Pakistan''s innings. (ANI)
