Steel output will double in two years- Says Steel Minister

Virbhadra-SinghSteel Minister Mr. Virbhadra Singh has said that India will double its steel production in the next two years. He has even said that it is possible without the help of biggies like Posco and ArcelorMittal. He has informed that the present steel production of the country is 59.9 million tonnes.

It is expected to rise to at least 120 million tonnes by the year 2911-12. This has been said by Mr. Virbhadra Singh to the media. He has also said that if the Posco and ArcelorMittal projects do not take off in time, still India has nothing to worry about it.

It will manage to double fold its production level in next two years. In that press conference, Mr. Singh was asked that is it possible for the country to reach this ambitious target with out the help of Posco and ArcelorMittal. Answering back to this Singh has said that they have not taken these companies into account for this target.

The cost of Posco and ArcelorMittal projects is around Rs 1.5 lakh-crore. He has said that several major producers like Jindal Steel, JSW, Essar Steel, Bhushan Steel and Tata Steel along with number of secondary players are going to expand their production capacity soon.
