Stop AIDS Project to merge with SF AIDS Foundation

Stop AIDS Project to merge with SF AIDS Foundation Two of the projects aimed at prevention of AIDS in San Francisco, the Stop AIDS Project and San Francisco AIDS Foundation have said that they will merge into one organization next month in order to improve the efficiency of services for HIV prevention and care.

The Stop AIDS Project has basic approach to AIDS/HIV prevention and education. It was founded in 1984 and has $1 million in government grants. The project will become a program of the bigger San Francisco AIDS Foundation that looks at on HIV testing, substance abuse and case management programs.

Neil Giuliano, the chief executive officer of San Francisco AIDS Foundation said, "The economies of scale for HIV prevention in San Francisco really provided a compelling case for the two prevention programs to come together. The portfolios together are going to be stronger and have a greater local service impact."

The San Francisco AIDS Foundation was established almost three decades ago and had a $23 million budget last year. The Stop AIDS Project will retain its name will continue tow work from its location. Its 13 employees will join the 110-member staff at the AIDS Foundation.
